Whats so special about Gold items?
Is there anything special about them except that they have gold colored names?

Isn't it Blue- Minor, Purple - Major, Gold - Superior when refering to a Rune being Unlocked/Extracted, as well as the overall value of the upgrade component.
Gold is best, purple is next and blue is eh ok. |

Generally speaking gold items will have better mods or lower req's than similiar item. Plus you also can get more mods with a gold item then a non-gold. As far as runes go yes to Volarian.

Example Longsword that is 11-22 damage on purple the requ to use this sword would be say (req 11 swordsmanship) on gold the requirement to use this sword would be (req 9 swordsmanship) so even if all the stats are the same and even the mods on them are the same the gold will still be better becasue of the req skill level required to use it will drop with gold. |

Purple and blue items can still drop with the same low requirement. I've max damage golds that require 13 of an attribute while max damage blues with 9 attribute requirement.
In the end it all comes down to being gold = pretty |

Unless you plan on salvaging the bonus items from it, there's really nothing inherently better about it. I've seen both purple and blue weapons with a good 3rd modifier on them too. And then a max damage plain item with a couple of great upgrades added can often get the job done just as well.
Last night someone tried to sell me a "gold" item, which wasn't really that great stats-wise, at an unreasonable price, while I was negotiating for a much better blue item with someone else at half the price. When I told them "no thanks" and that I'd found another for half of his asking price, he said, "but this one is gold, and the one you're looking at isn't!" I chuckled and politely told him, "A Gold item in itself means nothing if one has no intention to salvage the item from it, which I don't." Certainly, I've gotten some really great rare items, and many times it seems like the bonus stats on them are a little higher than average. But I've also found/bought purple, blue and plain items that were really great as well. |

*Note* Blue items may have just as good of a base stat, but it will rarely have multiple upgrades. So what, add your own. |

I kind of agree with Eclair. What makes gold so "special" is that people pee their pants when they see the word "Rare". Sure, for the most part, gold items are gonna be better, but I have found about 4 gold weapons in my playing time, they all sucked BAD, but I have found some purple items that are pretty rockin, so it's all about luck.

Having a "gold" weapon seems to be the #1 advertising "gimmick" for those that enjoy ripping off a newb.
"WTS UBER Gold [email protected]! SUPER RARE! w00t!" Meanwhile, in the very small fine print (unadvertised of course) is that this amazing hammer comes with pre-sear quality 9-13 damage. Yippie! Only 1k and it's yours! |

Besides perhaps the probability of getting better modifiers I have not noticed anything special. In fact, about three times I have received purple items that have zero modifiers. Meaning I identified them and ended up with an item with regular stats and a purple name. I have also received several pieces of armor with a purple name that were not even eligible to be identified.

Yeah I hate when that happens, the first couple of purple and gold armors I found didn't even have any freaking runes in them to be identified... Made me angry... I jus don't think I am lucky when it comes to drops lol...

A gold item *can* have better mods spawn on it than a purple or blue drop. If it doesn't get the better mods, then it really isn't any better, is it? Collector items are the best in the game, and they have blue text. The color of the text is irrelevant - the actual stats of the item are all that matters. Peace, -CxE

True Dat Ensign, but a lot of people, like I said, pee their pants when they see rare and jack up the prices on it just because of the word rare rather than actually basing the prices on how good the weapon itself is...
